WeeCare Mount Vernon, WA
Director Shirley ran a day care out of her home before joining WeeCare

Shirley Starkovich
Director of WeeCare Early Learning Center

Shirley began her work with children when she opened her own in-home day care, which ran successfully for 10 years. Her work with WeeCare began in 1986, when she accepted the Director position in the Sedro-Woolley center. After five years, she transferred to the Mount Vernon center, where she also served as Director. In June of 2006, Shirley moved on to serve as the Director of WeeCare Burlington.
An Everett Community College student, Shirley is majoring in Early Childhood Development. She has accumulated over 50 credits in the field, and is currently working toward her AA Degree.
Shirley and her husband Tony have two adult children, as well as dozens of other grownups who all know her as “mom” from her 31 years in child care and early childhood education. Shirley receives a great sense of satisfaction in guiding children and leading staff in their growth. She is a ready resource for parents, and encourages their questions and suggestions. If you were to ask Shirley why she continues to work in the early childhood development field, she would tell you that she’s in it for hugs.
